As pat of our media coursework, along with a music video we also need to create a CD front and back cover as well as a magazine advert to advertise our product. I will firstly research general CD covers that I like and I think are effective to compare to my own CD cover that I will make.
To begin with, I firstly researched general Indie Pop/Rock CD Covers, and the following examples are the ones which I liked the best:
From my research you can see that the covers I have chosen are fairly simple as they include just the artist in one side of the cover and then their name or brand on the other side. All of the artists are quite "posey" in their photos whilst also looking quite serious, which is something I will consider when taking photos of my model. The artists name's are all brought forward on the cover by using plain black or white backgrounds, which allows the audience to focus on the photo and the name, and this is also something I'd like to include on my album cover.
I then began to look at Pink's album cover for the song 'Less than Perfect' as this is the song we have used for our music video, and we have based some of our video research around the artist and the video, and therefore thought it was necessary to look at her album cover.
For the song we are using, this is the single cover that Pink used when advertising the single. In my opinion this is not the look I am going for at all, although it has a plain background I do not like the font of the writing at all and the pink and yellow font colours are exactly what I do NOT want, as I feel these colours portray and upbeat and happy album cover when we are trying to create a downbeat, serious and slightly depressing feel to represent our video.
This is the back cover of Pink's album, which I feel is slightly more effective and relates more to the song. However I am not fond of the layout of the cover, and I also feel that the use of the different fonts for the different songs makes the cover look slightly unprofessional, with no sense of continuity.
This photo is more inkeeping with the image I was looking for as it has black writing and a plain background. However this clothing she is wearing is extremely revealing and gives off a 'sexy' look which is the opposite of what I want to portray in my ancillary task. Pink's pose is also very provocative and as Alice is only 17 and where are portraying her as a school girl in our video this is not the image i want to create.
Again Pink is posing in a provocative way with again revealing clothing. Although I do not like the actual photo the font that has been used is focusing more on what I would like to base mine around.
After this basic research, I am going to further my research by focusing on the pose and look of the artist, and experiment with a photo shoot of Alice to compare what works well and what is effective for my album cover.
