Specific Research: CD Cover

To make my research much more specific I have decided to only look at artists which have the same genre of music as Pink as in general they will be similar to the type of look I want to create for my CD Cover. The following album covers are good examples of this:

This is a very effective album cover and I would like to largely base my work around this. The use of the artist, Duffy, looking down to the ground works well as it easily conveys that she looks upset, angry, and confused. All these emotions are portrayed in our video and therefore a photo like this would correlate well our video.

Following my research you can see that I have based it around black and white photos, Cheryl Cole, the women in the photo, does not actually produce 'Pop/Rock' music however I felt this cover was a good example to use as it has used a black and white cover, which allows the artist to stand out more on the page and be the main focus.

As you can see from the two examples above, these covers have used a black and white colour scheme with a hint of colour by adding red to one part of the photo. I think this works very effectively, especially with using the colour of red, and conveys a more deeper and wild side to both the artists. I would like to recreate something along the lines of these covers as I feel that the black and white effect is something that a lot of artists have used and works well, whilst adding a bit of colour makes the photo more interesting and draws peoples attention.

My final CD cover research is very defined shown in the examples below:

This CD cover is from Adele's album '21' and I knew that I would be able to use this as my research as many of her songs have the same feel as Pink and are associated with love and sadness, and this is conveyed in her album cover.

This is my favourite out of all the album covers. This album is 'Rated-R' by Rihanna and is similar to Adele's in the way that her hand is over her face to convey a sadness about her, and she is not smiling but looking upset. The use of the black and white is also very effective in this cover, and the font of the 'R' in the corner works well with the rest of the cover.

Both of these album covers I feel are very effective for basing my own album cover around as they correlate well with my song and story and will therefore portray what I want to portray in my CD cover. The two above are similar to the starting photos of my research with Kelly Clarkson as they all have their hands touching their face.

I will use these examples to again further my research
